Education

The Arts Council’s program “Arts Reach to Schools” (ARTS) is renowned for bringing local artists into the classroom for experiential learning in the visual and performing arts. Dance, theater and literary arts, music, visual arts and multidisciplinary projects provide broad exposure to the appreciation and self-expression of the arts and their place in the academic and social fabric of education. Assembly programs by touring artists and local performers highlight the year, which also includes “Celebration of the Arts in the Schools,” a showcase of student artwork from around the County.

2004 was the inaugural year of “Summer Arts Camp” – a weeklong immersion for kids 7 to 11 working with local professional artists and teachers in exploring the visual and performing arts. We will hold this event again in summer 2006. Call 209-532-2787 for more information.

As an extension of the Summer Arts Camp, we have organized several Second Saturday Arts Camps, with artists from varied disciplines, again to work with children aged 7 to 11 years. Please see the Events page for additional information.

The 2007-2008 catalog of artists and offerings in the Arts Reach program is available at the CSAC office at 48 S. Washington St. or by calling 209-532-2787. You may also PDFdownload a copy of the catalog (PDF format, 566kb) .
